I believe that there is a form objectification that everyone has about someone. They might look at their face first, their body, their eyes, their feet, their wardrobe, it is a way to objectify someone. In today’s world we see the videos that exploit woman in a bad way and sometimes in a good way. For example in Ne-yo video Miss Independent it shows an independent woman who does not depend on a man to do things for her. In the video the woman is the CEO of a company and Ne-yo expresses that he likes woman who can do for themselves. Video exploit woman in a bad way in the Nelly video named tip drill. In his video his has woman walking around half naked shaking what their mother gave them. The woman in the video allows producers to video record their body.
The only thing that I don't understand is why do females get made when they are objectified when they are the ones who allow it. Woman who don't like objectification should speak out about it instead of sitting back and watching it take place. I believe that if woman as a whole speak out about woman objectification than changes will will come. I dont think its nothing wrong with objectification because everyone does it. It depends on what kind it is.
I know that I have my own preference in females. It is always better too look at a females personality rather than looking at what you can get from her. When woman walk around with small pants on its kind of like a sign that says, "Hey look what i got,". Woman like this look for a level of self esteem. They look for an identity or a symbol that represents them. They want to have a bad identity rather than an identity that say I am a well educated woman that can do for myself with no ones help. This is what really should symbolize a woman.
People in Washington Dc, wonder why we have the highest rate in AIDS and HIV. We have woman that walk around and have no respects for what they have. They don't cherish what GOD have given them and that he believes you should save that moment until you get married.

Interesting blog Reggie. I like the way you call for women to take responsibility for their own depiction in media, though in our economic recession, many women will turn to their bodies as a means for making ends make "cents". I do agree that if women we're more critical of men who portray and objectify them negatively, much of the excesses of objectification would be minimized.
ReplyDeleteI do think there are interesting double standards between women and men. A man is supposed to be independent and when he isn't, is considered weak. A woman being independent isn't expected, which is, sadly, why it stands out. Also, the onus of "saving oneself" before marriage and respecting ones body is only something generally discussed in reference to women. You seldom hear of guys talking about "saving" themselves, and they are part of the problem where STD and pregnancy rates are concerned. Just food for thought. Good reflection though.
